Decisions that benefit nature and people

Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

I work on the lands of xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), and live on the lands of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and səl̓ilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. As a settler to Australia and Canada, I recognize the lands that I have worked and lived, and have privileged from, remain unceded lands that have been forcefully taken from Indigenous peoples. Today the legacy of colonisation continues to result in trauma and imbalances of: power, resources, and opportunities for Indigenous communities on these lands, and around the world. The fields of conservation, and decision science, have been misused to further perpetuate these injustices. It is my commitment to work towards. It is my commitment to work towards truth and reconciliation, and to support self-determination and Indigenous people’s right to free, prior and informed consent on their lands. This involves a commitment to learning and listening, engaging in reciprocal, respectful and long-lasting relationships with Indigenous communities, remaining open to new ways of informing decisions, and advocating for the rights of Indigenous peoples to be be involved and lead decision-making on issues that affect them.
